About this Buick
We have had Claribel (as we call her) for a little over 10 years. The car is an unmodified all stock mostly original example of a 1940 56C. (A Super Convertible Coupe). Introduced half way through the year the convertibles were made for only 6 months then the 1941's came out. There were only 4804 built.
This Car's Past
This car was originally gun metal gray with a gray top. When cleaning it shortly after bringing it home I found the floor to be lined with newspapers from Washington DC, all dated 1967. I suspect the paint and interior were redone at this time. Now she is Sierra Cream which was Buick color in 1940 with a red. vinyl interior and a black vinyl top.
The Good & The Bad

Original and Complete
Claribel has been painted at some point, but never restored. As far as I can tell she is all original and complete clear down to the little ashtray inserts and hubcaps. She is a fun driver as is, or could be the starting point of a full restoration.

Unrestored
Unrestored means just that. I have repaired what I needed to to drive the car safely... rebuilt transmission, new wiring harness, complete brake system, new windshield glass, restored instruments & Dash.

Warts
Since the bulk of the car has not been restored there are areas that need work. The frame is rust free, but the sheetmetal on the floor and rocker panels needs work. The top is currently off, a fresh one is in the box awaiting installation. The paint is lightly oxidized in places and has numerous chips. The rear left fender needs repairing and the chrome is pitted in many places.
